We will have a Welcome Dinner at 7 pm, where you will enjoy a delicious meal, receive your beloved “Swag Bag” and meet professionals whose expertise help you make informed relocation decisions. You will have the opportunity to meet carefully selected professionals to assist you on your relocation journey or fact-finding mission.
DAY 2
POBLADO, LAURELES AND COMUNA 13 (Breakfast, Lunch Included)
After breakfast we will tour some of the popular places in Medellin, such as Poblado and Laureles Neighborhoods. Poblado is an upscale district with modern amenities, lively nightlife, and lush green spaces. Laureles is a charming, walkable area known for its local cafes, parks, and authentic Colombian vibe. Both communities are sought after locations.
We will stop by the Skybox Sports Bar (owned by a Black Expat from the US who now calls Medellin home) for lunch.
As the sun starts to set on Medellin, we will be on a roof top at at the famous Comuna 13 to enjoy Afrobeats and Culture. Comuna 13 is a vibrant and historically significant neighborhood known for its powerful transformation from a once-violent area into a hub of art, resilience, and culture. While it’s widely recognized for its striking street art, music, and innovative public escalators, Comuna 13 also holds deep ties to Afro-Colombian history and culture.
The neighborhood is home to a significant population of Afro-Colombians who migrated from Colombia’s Pacific coast, fleeing violence and economic hardship. These communities brought rich cultural traditions, including Afro-Colombian music (like currulao and champeta), dance, food, and spiritual practices, which continue to shape the neighborhood’s identity today.
Through hip-hop, graffiti, and community art, many Black youth in Comuna 13 have used creativity to reclaim their narratives, resist marginalization, and celebrate their heritage. The transformation of the area is not only a symbol of urban resilience but also a testament to the strength and cultural richness of its Afro-descendant communities.
We head back to the Hotel and you have a free night to reflect on the magic of the day, explore and have dinner on your own.
DAY 3
COLONIAL TOWN SANTA FE DE ANTIOQUIA . . . IT'S FOR THE CULTURE (Breakfast, Lunch Included)
Step into the colonial heart of Antioquia with a full-day cultural journey through Santa Fe de Antioquia, a town known for its cobblestone streets, whitewashed buildings, and deep Afro-Colombian roots. Just 90 minutes from Medellín, this heritage town offers a powerful glimpse into Colombia’s layered history - especially the vital contributions and resilience of the African diaspora.
Begin the day with a guided walking tour through the historic center. As you stroll past centuries-old churches and colorful plazas, your local Afro-Colombian guide brings the hidden stories to life. See the iconic Puente de Occidente, one of Latin America’s oldest suspension bridges.
Mid-day, enjoy an authentic Colombian lunch. We will also have the unique opportunity to engage in traditional gold panning using techniques from the colonial times.
Before returning to Medellín, browse a small artisan market featuring handmade crafts, textiles, and jewelry by local Afro-Colombian artisans.
Today was a lot to take in and a VERY special day. Tonight, order in or go out to dinner . . . Tomorrow, another MAGNFICENT DAY IN MEDELLIN awaits.
DAY 4
SABANETA, ENVIGADO, MEDELLIN METRO, BOTERO SQUARE & PALACIO NATIONAL (Breakfast, Lunch Included)
WHEW!!! Grab that breakfast and walking shoes . . . Let's GO!! Today we explore real estate and the communities of Sabaneta and Envigado. Both cities are close to Medellin and are very popular expat communities. You will gain perspective on daily life and neighborhood accessibility. Enjoy Medellín’s clean, efficient metro system and see how locals move through the city. Medellin is the only city in Colombia with a massive transportation system. We will take the metro downtown and blend into the hustle and bustle of the Botero Square to view the famous bronze sculptures by Fernando Botero and enjoy the vibrant street scene and nearby museums. We will explore the historic Palacio Nacional - now a shopping mall filled with boutique stores, Colombian fashion, and artisanal goods. DAY 5
GUATAPE . . . ALL DAY! (Breakfast, Lunch Included)
It's and early day, but you will have plenty of time to RELAX AND ENJOY THE RIDE . . . Today's adventure begins with a 2 hour ride to Guatapé. As you leave the bustling city behind, the route offers scenic views of rolling hills, lush greenery, and glimpses into rural Colombian life. Guatapéis colorful, vibrant and a represents the diversity that is Medellin. Stop along the way to taste "pan de bono," (traditional Colombian cheese bread).
Before the Spanish conquest in the 16th century, the area was inhabited by indigenous groups led by a cacique named Guatapé, after whom the town is named. Established on October 4, 1811, by Don Francisco Giraldo y Jiménez, Guatapé evolved from a primarily agricultural and mining community into a prominent hydroelectric center in the 1970s, following the construction of a large reservoir that now defines much of its landscape. Bring your walking shoes, today we will have a walking tour of the town of Guatape.
We will go to the "ROCK." The iconic El Peñón de Guatapé, also known as La Piedra Rock. This massive granite monolith rises over 650 feet above the surrounding terrain. A staircase of 708 steps leads to the summit, where you (if you chose to accept the assignment) will be rewarded with panoramic views of the sprawling reservoir and the verdant countryside. A perfect opportunity for photography and reflection on life all the good things in store for us.
Now that you have worked up an appetite we will enjoy a typical Colombian lunch and a boat trip to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views.
As the day winds down and we prepare for the journey back to Medellín, we will smile because we get to carry the unforgettable memories of Guatapé’s vivid colors, rich history, and stunning landscapes.
